Colonial Viper MK IV

Colonial Viper MK IV

Finally had some time to finish this kit. As previously stated, the Colonial Viper MK IV didnt had any screen time. This is a design by Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer that never made it to the series. The model is 1/24th scale and more bulkier than the Viper MK I from the original series. I didnt like the pilot that was supplied with the kit, so I replaced him with one from FM MK II.
The painting was done with Vallejo acrylics and for the light weathering I used couple MiG products. On some areas, I removed the paint through careful sanding with steel wool. I didnt want a heavy weathering like we mostly see in the Vipers, but I also didnt want to have a pristine look. The kit came without decals, so I borrowed some from my JT-Graphics MK II Decal sheet.

Enjoy the pics :)

Batman – Grapnel Gun

Batman Arkham City Grapnel Gun

Couple months ago a fellow over at therpf offered a kit of the Grapnel Gun as seen/played in the Batman Game Arkham Asylum/City. This was an exact copy of the gun as the 3d model was printed  from the renderings of the game model.

The castings were okay, there were some pinholes here and there and a nasty seam across the model which required (more than expected) putty work.

One thing that really bothers me with gun kits is having closed barrels, this is really unacceptable, but I understand for casting purposes its easier that way. So I had to mill out the some resin to make the barrels look like gun barrels.

I played that game long time ago and as far as I remember, the gun had a "gun metal" color look, but I do wanted to have some variation, so I went for something different. After priming I painted the front with Alclad 2 Stainless Steel, also drilled some holes to add 4 screws on each side of the gun. The mid section was painted with a mix of metal gun and few drops of black and the grip was painted in black.

Still thinking about how to display it, probably I will make a base and a nice plaque. Will let you know when this is happened.

World War Hulk

There are so many Hulk statues that came lately to the market, and also in very many variations but very few pieces presenting the HULK during his exile (Planet Hulk) or his return to earth (War Hulk)

I present you a custom statue of War Hulk made lately by Halimaw! It is huge, ~27,5 inch (70cm) offered as 1/4 scale, but I think it goes towards to 1/3 scale. You can see it next to the 1/2 scale Captain America.

The statue is made from a fiberglass/resin combination to increase strength without making it very heavy. The armor piece on his arm is chromed so it is very shiny. The battle Axt comes in two pieces and for safer shipping it was not mounted to the statue

The base was kept pretty simple, but I had couple heroes relics added to give an idea who has fallen before him :) There are some small paint flaws here and there, but nothing that will ruin the overall awesomeness. And since there are not many alternatives for a War Hulk in the market, this is the statue to go for, at least in my opinion. Although I think Sideshow will sure come up with something in that direction since they already introduced Skaar, the son of Hulk PF.

Order 66 Productions 1:2256 Gun Barrel Detail Sets

Couple days ao I received a sample of some very nice gun barrel sets, for 1/2256 Sci-Fi ships. These are from brass and should fit to any Star Wars battleships on that scale. This is how they came

When I first saw them I thought they were just plain brass rods without any details, they were so tiny, I couldn't recognize any variation in the shape, but a closer look revealed the looks

As you can see these do definetely look like Gun Barrels, I wish I had a better camera but this is as close as I can zoom

Amazing right? The set has 64 Gun Barrels, so those should look perfect for a Star Destroyer at this scale

Besides this set there is also another, I believe specially made for the Venator ships. The sample I received is not final yet as some details will be made differently. But you can already see here too, the quality for such small pieces is really top notch.

Both of these products should be available soon, not sure about the price though, but you could always check directly with the producer here

DeSanto’s Viper MK IV – W.I.P.

This is a built I started a year ago but put it on hold after I encountered some problems with the kit (more on this later). I received the kit from a member over at the RI forum. This kit which is1/24th scale, had a very limited run, I do not know exactly how many kits were made, but there should be only a handful from what you read in the forums.

This is a design by Tom DeSanto and Bryan Singer that never made it to the series, and it should represent a Colonial Viper Mark IV

I got the kit in this condition

The castings were okay, some seams and pinholes here and there, but nothing that would cause much trouble. I have started working on the body, had to remove a thick layer of paint, or primer I think, because it had many cracks from the previous owner. Since the body parts were heavy I decided to add some brass rod for additional support

The intakes in this kit are almost non existent, ulra low detail so to speak,

so I decided to do castings from these things which belong to a Revell ARC-170 Kit

Not 100% satisfied, but definetely better than before. I also added couple panels/details here and there

When the wings attached I noticed that they seemed pretty short so I decided to extend them little bit. I used some apoxie sculpt together with styrene for this job. This was the nasty part of this built so far.

And finally primed and ready for painting, well, guns, engines and cockpit are missing, but these will be added at the end.
